Soren Wainio-Theberge, MSc Hons (they/them)
Soren Wainio-Theberge is a 1st-year M.Sc. student in clinical psychology. Prior to joining the EMBody lab, they completed their M.Sc. in neuroscience at McGill university in 2023, and worked as a research assistant at McGill for two more years before making the switch to clinical studies. Their research at McGill sought to understand the feedback loop between action and sensation in emotion, particularly as these are involved in individual differences and personality: they conducted studies on the personality correlates of natural variations in body posture and of emotional body sensations, as well as studies on postural feedback (including the much-studied "power posing" design). In their research with the EMBody lab, Soren will be investigating the role of interoception (the skill of perceiving sensations from one's body) in psychotherapy, including its involvement in helping people understand their emotions and in predicting which types of therapy might be most beneficial for an individual.
When not doing research, Soren loves playing 12-hour-long board games, singing in choirs and at open mics, and going to classical concerts and comedy shows.
